Move Over Roger & Rafa – Casper Ruud Is The New Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award Winner

Casper Ruud won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award for 2022. This award is given to the player who has shown the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and fairness. The nominees for the award are chosen by the ATP and the winner is decided by a vote of the ATP players.

Roger Federer won the award a record 13 times and Rafael Nadal has won the award five times. This is the first time since 2003 when neither Rafael Nadal nor Roger Federer has won the award. Novak Djokovic has never won the award in his career.

Casper Ruud is a very calm player on the court, and he seldom loses his temper. In an era where players are quick to throw a tantrum on the court and argue with umpires, it’s great to see a young player like Ruud set an example to the kids following the sport.

Casper Ruud finished 2022 as the world’s number 2 player. He reached the finals at the French Open and the US Open. He also reached the finals at the year-end ATP Finals where he lost to Novak Djokovic. He is the son of former ATP player Christian Ruud.
