Jelena Ostapenko Doesn’t Trust Electronic Line Calling

Jelena Ostapenko has never followed the script. She gets under everyone’s skin – her opponents, umpires, and sometimes even her doubles partners. She can be found frequently gesturing or arguing with umpires over line calls.

Now with many tournaments moving to electronic line calling systems, Jelena Ostapenko is taking her fight against the electronic calling system. She doesn’t think it’s accurate based on her expressions on the court though.

In a post-match press conference at the Australian Open, she said that she wants the line umpires back because the court looks empty without them. At one point during her match when the electronic line calls went her way, she applauded with her racquet.
