Hsieh Su-Wei Wins Back To Back Doubles Grand Slam Titles After Long Injury Layoff

Hsieh Su-Wei and Barbora Strycova won the women’s doubles title at Wimbledon. Hsieh also won the French Open doubles title with Wang Xinyu.

Strycova and Su-Wei are both 37 years old and are the oldest pair to make it to a grand slam final. The pair won the 2019 Wimbledon title and lost the 2020 Australian Open doubles finals.

Su-Wei is the highest-ranked Taiwanese player in history. She reached a peak ranking of world number 23 in singles and world number 1 in doubles. She is known for unorthodox play which includes playing with two hands on both sides and hitting flat shots.

Su-Wei was out of action for almost 18 months due to an injury. But she hit her peak form right away winning both the French Open and Wimbledon. She has won six doubles grand slam titles and earned more than $10 million in prize money in her career.

Marketa Vondrousova Becomes First Married Woman To Win Wimbledon Singles Title In More Than 40 Years

Marketa Vondrousova surprised many pundits by winning the Wimbledon singles title beating Ons Jabeur. She is the first married women’s singles champion since Chris Evert in 1981.

In fact, Vondrousova and her husband celebrated their first wedding anniversary at the Wimbledon Champions’ ball on Sunday. Interestingly, Ons Jabeur is also married, so no matter the match’s outcome, a married woman would have been a Wimbledon champion.

In 2019, Vondrousova reached the finals at the French Open where she lost to Ashleigh Barty in a lop-sided match. She had mediocre results in the four years after that final. But she was a more mature player at Wimbledon this year.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she won the silver medal in singles. She lost the final match to Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic.
