Garbine Muguruza Splits With Coach Conchita Martinez

Garbine Muguruza has split with longtime coach Conchita Martinez. Muguruza is taking a break from tennis right now.

Martinez worked with Muguruza during her 2017 Wimbledon triumph as her regular Sam Sumyk was unavailable. The pair had worked together since 2019.

Garbiñe and I have decided by mutual agreement to end our working relationship.

These have been fantastic years, full of great emotions and wonderful experiences, both on and off the court

It has been a real pleasure working with you, Garbiñe. With all my love, I wish you the best.

-Conchita Martinez

The split appears amicable as both Martinez and Muguruza shared their admiration for each other on social media while announcing the split.

Garbine Muguruza hasn’t played since the end of January when she was struggling with poor form. She is currently ranked outside the top 100. She recently announced that she will skip the claycourt and grasscourt seasons.

Mururuza is a former world number 1 who has won 10 titles in her career. She won the 2016 French Open title and the 2017 Wimbledon title. She reached two other grand slam finals – at the 2015 Wimbledon and 2020 Australian Open.

Dominic Thiem Splits With Coach Nicolas Massu

Dominic Thiem has split with his coach Nicolas Massu. They have worked together since 2019 and under Massu’s guidance, Thiem won his only grand slam at the US Open in 2020.

Since coming back from injury, Thiem has struggled for form. So the split is not surprising.

Speaking about the partnership with Massu, Thiem said,

All I want to hold in my mind is what an amazing 4 years we’ve had, what an amazing journey we’ve been on together. Only after it’s over I’ve realized of all the success we had together, and that’s what stays with me. Now it’s time to start a new chapter

Thiem went on to add that he has positive memories of his time working with Massu.

The emotions and the thoughts were only positive because everything I want to keep in mind with Nico was or is the incredible four years we had, the incredible journey we had.

Dominic Thiem is only 29 years old and has plenty of tennis play. Hopefully, he can find his form and start competing for titles soon.
