Lloyd Harris trained for many years at the Anthony Harris Tennis Academy in Cape Town, South Africa under coach Anthony Harris (no relation). Since breaking out on the men’s tennis tour, Lloyd Harris has an enthusiastic group of supporters who cheer on him on Whatsapp.

Members of the Whatsapp group include coaches, parents,  junior tennis players training at the Anthony Harris Tennis Academy. Slowly, the group has grown to include people outside Cape Town.

Harris credits the academy for shaping him as a tennis player and as the person he is. The tennis academy has grown since Lloyd Harris left. It now has five coaches and six courts including a clay court. The academy supports children coming from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Lloyd Harris reached the quarter-finals at the US Open. He beat several seeded players such as Karen Khachanov, Denis Shapovalov, and Reilly Opelka on his way to the quarter-final. His impressive performance has been an inspiration for kids back home in South Africa.

His tennis career was funded by his parents. In 2018, when he was playing Portugal, he received news that his father had passed away. He stayed back and won the tournament for his dad.

Most tennis players get to a tournament using the tournament’s official transport. Not Hubert Hurkacz. He got to the US Open in a McLaren GT. At Indian Wells, it was the McLaren 720S. That’s because he has a partnership with the luxury carmaker that allows him to drive ultra-luxury vehicles to tournaments across the world.

Getting a partnership with McLaren has been a dream come true for Hubert Hurkacz, who enjoyed playing with cars as a child. He is a big fan of Formula One racing, where McLaren is well-known. He became a bigger fan of Formula One after watching the Netflix’ show ‘Drive To Survive.

I really follow it every single race, qualifying. I really enjoyed watching. There is such a big process to get the car ready for the race, there’s so much data, so many things. The drivers are just insane driving these machines that are so fast.
