Mayar Sherif Creates History For Egypt With First Title, Novak Djokovic Continues To Roll

Mayar Sherif won her first title beating Maria Sakkari at the Parma Ladies Open becoming the first Egyptian to win a WTA title. The loss must sting for Sakkari and raise questions about her ability to win big matches.

Barbora Krejcikova beat hometown favorite Anett Kontaveit to win the inaugural Tallinn Open. This was Krejcikova’s fourth WTA title.

There’s another Swiss making the news this week. Marc-Andrea Huesler beat Holger Rune to win the Sofia title. He will rise to 64 in the rankings on Monday. He is the first Swiss to win an ATP title since Roger Federer won in Basel in 2019.

Yoshihito Nishioka won the Korea Open beating Denis Shapovalov in straight sets.

Novak Djokovic easily won the title in Tel Aviv beating Marin Cilic in the final. Djokovic looked in great form all week and did not lose a set in the tournament. With this title, Djokovic has won a title on all three surfaces this year (Rome on clay, Wimbledon on grass, and Tel Aviv on hard courts).

US Open Adds La Roche-Posay As Sunscreen Partner, Serena Williams Prepares For Retirement

La Roche-Posay is the official sunscreen partner of the US Open. This is the first time the US Open has a sunscreen partner. (US Open)

Caroline Garcia won the Cincinnati title beating Petra Kvitova. She is the first qualifier to win a WTA 1000 title. She has now won 3 titles in 2022 – one on each surface.

World number 1 pair Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram won the men’s doubles title in Cincy. After beating the Australian duo of Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios in three sets in the round of 16, Salisbury and Ram easily coasted to the title. (ATP Tour)

Alize Cornet has completed 500 wins on the WTA tour.

Serena Williams will play her last US Open next week. She has not been in good form and has not played much this year. She also appeared to be injured at Cincinnati. (Vogue)

Sania Mirza has pulled out of the US Open with an elbow injury. The US Open was supposed to be her last major before retirement. But she says her retirement plans have changed. (Zeenews)
