Mayar Sherif created history at the 2020 French Open when she became the first Egyptian female to appear in the main draw of a grand slam tournament. In 2022, she became the first Egyptian woman to win a WTA title when she won the Parma Ladies Open. Sherif graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine. She was part of the Pepperdine women’s tennis team. She reached the semifinals of the 2018 NCAA tennis tournament and was ranked 11th in the US at the end of her senior year.
