Alison Riske was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her dad worked for the Secret Service and the FBI, and her mom was a school teacher. Her sister Sarah, and brother Dan played tennis in college.

Riske got a tennis scholarship to Vanderbilt University in the summer of 2009. But she decided to skip college turn pro. She is married to Stephen Amritraj, nephew of Indian tennis player Vijay Amritraj and son of Anand Amritraj. Her current sponsors are Lotto and Wilson.
