Polish Tennis On The Ascent – Iga Swiatek And Hubert Hurkacz Enter Year-End Tournament Finals

Polish tennis is on the rise. Iga Swiatek and Herbert Hurkacz will be playing in the WTA Finals and ATP Finals respectively. The country now has a young top player in both the women’s and men’s games These two players are likely to dominate the sport for the next decade.

In 2020, Iga Swiatek became the first player from Poland to win a singles grand slam when she won the French Open title. Swiatek is also immensely popular on the tour. She was voted the WTA Fan Favorite Singles Player of the Year in 2020.

Hubert Hurkacz reached the semifinals at the 2021 Wimbledon Championship. He beat Roger Federer on the way to the semifinals. In 2021, he won the Miami Masters title for his first Masters title. Though a grand slam has eluded him so far, he will be contending for a grand slam for many years.

Hurkacz has already tied the highest ranking held by a Polish man – world number 10. Wojciech Fibak was ranked world number 10 in 1977, almost 35 years ago.

Another country that has produced top players in recent years is Italy. Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner are already Top 10 players in the world. It’s only a matter of time before a player from Italy wins a grand slam.
