Respected Chair Umpire Mohamed Lahyani Helps Pick Up Trash At Indian Wells

Mohamed Lahyani is one of the most admired and respected umpires on the tennis tour. Here is one more reason to admire Lahyani. When Indian Wells matches were interrupted by rain this week, Lahyani was seen picking up trash along with the tournament ushers.

In 2014, a survey of journalists at the World Tour Finals voted Mohamed Lahyani as the best chair umpire. But Lahyani’s umpiring career has not been without controversies. At the 2018 US Open, he encouraged Nick Kyrgios to try harder in his match against Pierre-Hugues Herbert. Lahyani was suspended for two tournaments for his behavior.

Lahyani was the chair umpire for the longest match ever played – John Isner Vs Nicolas Mahut at the 2010 Wimbledon Championships. Lahyani was born in Morocco but his family moved to Sweden when he was a child. He currently lives in Spain.

Monica Puig Engaged To Former Georgia Tech Tennis Player Nathan Rakitt

Puerto Rican tennis player Monica Puig is now engaged to her boyfriend Nathan Rakitt. The engagement happened at the Dutchman State Park, Arizona.  Puig shared the news on Instagram with a picture and a lovely message. Several WTA players, tournaments, and sponsors congratulated the couple on their engagement.


Nathan Rakitt played tennis at Georgia Tech. He is currently a business consultant in Phoenix, Arizona. The couple has been dating for almost 2 years. Puig was previously dating MLB player Derek Dietrich.

At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Puig became the first Puerto Rican to win an Olympic gold medal. In 2016, she reached a peak singles ranking of 27 in the world.  She has struggled with injuries in the last year and her rankings have dropped out of the Top 200.
