Rafael Nadal Made “Adopted Son” Of Spanish Municipality In Mallorca

The city of Sant Llorenc des Cardassar has made Rafael Nadal their adopted son for his help in the aftermath of the 2018 rain and flooding that affected the city. Sant Llorenc des Cardassar is a small municipality in Mallorca.

I am very grateful to the people of Sant Llorenç for making me their adopted child! It is a great satisfaction for me that the people have thought that we deserve such an honor!

I also want to thank es Batle and his entire government team!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

– Rafael Nadal

The flooding killed over a dozen people and hundreds had to evacuate. Nadal donated $1 million for the clean-up efforts. He helped volunteers clean up the area and allowed them to stay at the Rafa Nadal Academy.

Nadal is currently recovering from foot surgery. He skipped the US Open and will be out for the rest of the season. It’s not clear when he will return to action.

Not long after, he won his first singles title in Dubai. He went on to the silver medal in mixed doubles with Elena Vesnina at the Tokyo Olympics.
