At Age 18, Coco Gauff Reaches WTA Year-End Finals In Singles And Doubles (Hype Is Real)

Coco Gauff has had an incredible 2022 season. She has qualified for the WTA year-end championships in singles and doubles. She becomes the youngest American to qualify for the year-end championships since Lindsay Davenport in 1994. She is the youngest player to accomplish the feat since Maria Sharapova in 2004.

Gauff reached the singles and doubles final at the French Open. In addition, she reached the quarterfinals at the US Open. Though a grand slam title has eluded Gauff so far, she is on the right track and deserves all the hype she gets. We have to remember that she is still only 18.

Coco Gauff has reached a career-high ranking of world number 8 in singles and world number 1 in doubles. Her dad played college basketball at Georgia State University and her mom was a track and field athlete at Florida State University. So Gauff has the right genes to be a great athlete. Gauff found success in doubles with American partner Jessica Pegula.

Jelena Ostapenko Working With Coach Sascha Bajin

Jelena Ostapenko is now working with Sascha Bajin. Bajin previously coached Naomi Osaka to two grand slam titles. He was a hitting partner to Serena Williams when she won many grand slam titles.

In 2017, Ostapenko became the first player from Latvia to win a grand slam when she won the French Open. As a junior, she won the Wimbledon singles title in 2014. She plays aggressive tennis which is both her most significant advantage and disadvantage. When things are going well, she can hit winner after winner. When things are not going well, she makes a lot of unforced errors.

In 2018, he was nominated the Coach of the Year for helping Osaka win grand slams and rise in the rankings. After splitting with Osaka, he worked with several female tennis stars including Kristina Mladenovic, Dayana Yastremska, and Karolina Pliskova. He briefly played on the ATP tour and reached a career-high ranking of 1149 in singles.
