Leylah had an impressive junior career in which she won the 2019 French Open junior title. She made a quick and successful transition to the women’s tour. In 2021, she reached the finals at the US Open, where she lost to Emma Raducanu.

Fernandez’s dad Jorge is from Ecuador and mom Irene is from the Philippines.  She speaks Spanish, French, and English.  Fernandez’s hobbies include dancing and solving Rubiks Cubes.
