Dominic Thiem Named Austrian Athlete Of The Year 2020

US Open champion Dominic Thiem was named the Austrian Athlete of the Year for 2020. Thiem beat out football player David Alaba and Ski Jumping World Cup champion Stefan Kraft.

In his previous attempts to win the award, Thiem had finished twice behind skier Marcel Hirscher.  Only two other tennis players have won this award, which is typically won by skiers. Thomas Muster won the award in 1990 and 1995, and Jürgen Melzer won the award in 2010.

Thiem will be playing at the Nitto ATP Finals in London next week. This is the fifth time he has qualified for the year-end tournament.

David Goffin Splits With Coach Thomas Johansson

David Goffin announced that he has split with coach Thomas Johansson after a two-year partnership.  This is the second time Goffin had worked with Johansson in his career.

After two years of working together, Thomas and I have decided to end our partnership. I would like to thank him for everything he has done for me and all the moments we have shared together. I wish him all the best for the future!

Goffin has been through a few rough months. In October, he tested positive for COVID-19. He has spoken about a lack of motivation and fatigue.

Johansson also talked about Goffin’s troubles:
