Bad Boy Alexander Zverev Hits Umpire’s Chair With Racquet, Gets Kicked Out Of Tournament

Alexander Zverev is building quite a reputation on the tennis tour. He was kicked out of the Mexican Open after hitting the umpire’s chair with his racquet. He was fined $40,000 for his behavior and will forfeit $31,000 in prize money and all the ranking points earned in the tournament.

The events unfolded following Zverev’s loss in doubles with partner Marcelo Melo. The pair lost to Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara. Zverev was angry when a prior point was called in by the chair umpire. After shaking hands with his opponents, Zverev hit the umpire’s chair with his racquet. The umpire was unhurt but the racquet was damaged.

It’s surprising that an ATP 500 tournament didn’t have Hawkeye available for challenges. Still, it doesn’t excuse Alexander Zverev‘s unsportsmanlike behavior. He is already under investigation by the ATP for allegedly physically abusing his ex-girlfriend.
