Andrey Rublev Condemns Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine With a Peace Message

Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev wrote “no war please” on the camera lens after winning his semifinal match in Dubai. It’s great to see tennis players take such a public stand on controversial issues since there can be repercussions for Rublev.

This week, Daniil Medvedev‘s wife Daria wore Ukrainian colors to show her solidarity with the Ukrainian people. Medvedev, who overtook Novak Djokovic to become world number 1, said:

Watching the news from home, waking up here in Mexico, was not easy

Rublev beat Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinals and will face Jiri Vesley in the final. Rublev is currently ranked number 7 in the world. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he won the gold medal in mixed doubles with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Russian Star Daniil Medvedev’s Wife Daria Wears Ukrainian Colors

Daniil Medvedev is on the front pages of newspapers today after reaching the world number 1 ranking. Medvedev’s wife Daria also made the news for wearing Ukrainian colors courtside.

We all can applaud Daria for her boldness because the Russian government can’t be too happy about her wearing Ukraine color while Russia is launching an assault on Ukraine. She is sending a message of support to Ukraine.

Daniil Medvedev and Daria  married in 2018 when Medvedev was just 22. They dated and lived together for four years before marrying. Daria was a promising junior players but her tennis career was cut short by injuries. She studied journalism in Moscow after retiring from tennis.

It’s uncertain what will happen to the tournaments that are held in Russia. With many countries imposing sanction on Russia, most tournaments will likely be canceled.
