Alexander Zverev will play Davis Cup for Germany this weekend, one week after getting kicked out of the tournament in Acapulco for hitting the umpire’s chair during a doubles match. ATP is investigating the incident and in the meantime, Zverev is free to play on the tour.
Recently, Zverev had said that he is not a fan of the new Davis Cup format. His brother had said in interviews that Zverev will skip Davis Cup matches due to scheduling conflicts. But after Zverev was kicked out of Acapulco, he has changed his mind and shown interest in Davis Cup. Some tennis observers have suggested that it’s a PR move to improve his image
Zverev is also under investigation by the ATP for domestic abuse. His former girlfriend Olga Sharypova has alleged that Zverev subjected her to physical and emotional abuse throughout their relationship.
Alexander Zverev has faced no consequences for his bad behavior. Sponsors have stuck with him despite the allegation. He has not missed any tournaments because the ATP has taken no action on his case.
