Japanese tennis star Yoshihito Nishioka has quietly built a name for himself on the ATP tour. Sponsors see Nishioka as a young Japanese player who could follow in the footsteps of Kei Nishikori. Nishioka’s dad is a tennis coach. Nishioka started playing tennis at age 4. His favorite player when growing up was a fellow lefty, Marcelo Rios.
In 2018, he won his ATP singles first title at the Shenzhen Open, His second title came at the Korea Open in 2022. At 5′ 7″, Nishioka is one of the shortest players on the tour. But with his powerful groundstrokes, he can keep up with players who are more than a foot taller than him.
