Zverev Hires David Ferrer As His New Coach After Trial. Will This Time Be Different?

Sascha Zverev announced yesterday that he is hiring David Ferrer as his new coach. Zverev has been testing a potential partnership with Ferrer, who was ranked as high world number 3.

Zverev’s dad Alexander Zverev Sr will continue to be on his coaching team. Zverev had previously been coached by Ivan Lendl and before that Juan Carlos Ferrero.

The test phase is over. We are together, a couple. We understand each other incredibly well and are now a team. David and my father are both my head coaches now

Despite his immense talent, Zverev has underperformed relative to his potential.  Zverev has lacked the discipline needed to take his game to the next level and win a grand slam.

Will this partnership be different?  Zverev is a little older and one hopes a little more mature.  Only weeks ago, he was seen partying when he was expected to be in quarantine.

We hope that Ferrer can instill the same work ethic in Zverev that made Ferrer one of the top players for more than a decade.
