Belgian Alexander Blockx beat American Learner Tien to win the boy’s title while Alina Korneeva beat Mirra Andreeva to win the girls’ title. Tiener partnered with American Cooper Williams to win the boy’s doubles title beating Blockx and Joao Fonseca in the final. (ESPN)
It was a great Australian Open for the American men. Three Americans – Tommy Paul, Ben Shelton, and Sebastian Korda – reached the Australian Open quarterfinals. This is the first time in more than 20 years that this has happened. Paul went on to reach the semifinals where he lost to Novak Djokovic.
Mardy Fish is no longer the US Davis Cup captain after his controversial decisions in the Davis Cup finals. David Nainkin will be the interim captain and Dean Goldfine will be the assistant coach. The US named Tommy Paul, Mackenzie McDonald, Denis Kudla, Rajeev Ram, and Austin Krajicek for its Davis Cup tie against Uzbekistan that will be played Feb 3-4. (ESPN)
