Money In Tennis 2019 – Federer Retains Top Spot, Osaka Makes Her Mark
Roger Federer finished 2019 as the highest paid tennis player in the world with $93 million in earnings according to Forbes. That’s not surprising given his popularity beyond tennis. Federer recently won GQ’s Most Stylish Man of the Decade Award.
Federer has been on top of the money rankings for a long time. Novak Djokovic, who was arguably the most dominant player of the decade, was a distant second with about $50 million in earnings.
Japanese Kei Nishikori always punches above his weight. He is hugely popular in Japan and has consistently earned more than Nadal even though he has never won a grand slam.
Andy Murray, who has been struggling with injuries, and had a resurgence in 2019 after having surgery is not in the Top 10 list for 2019.
Among the women, Serena Williams remains the highest paid women’s tennis player. Sloane Stephens stays in the Top 10, while Naomi Osaka is a new addition to the list. Osaka switched to Japanese nationality recently. Look for her to rise to the top as Serena approaches retirement. Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber round out the Top 10.
