Ekaterina  Makarova Retires From Professional Tennis

Russian tennis player Ekaterina  Makarova has announced her retirement from professional tennis. 31-year old Makarova  shared the news on social media with her fans.

Dear friends! I have important news for you today. I made a difficult decision to end my professional career in tennis. Today I want to thank everyone who has been with me shoulder to shoulder all these years. Who took part in my sports career, starting from my childhood and ending with it. I was lucky enough to work with the best team of professionals. My favorite coaches, sparring, massage therapists, and osteopaths. My team has always been my mainstay and support. I would like to thank my lovely family and friends who have always been there for me. I always feel your love and support. My family is my source of energy and inspiration. My dear, faithful fans! You have always supported me anywhere in the world. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Your faith in me, gave me strength and helped me move forward to victories! She won 3 WTA singles titles and 15 doubles titles in her career. She reached the singles semifinals at Australian Open and the US Open. Makarova won doubles grand slam titles at the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open, and a mixed doubles title at the US Open. She also won the doubles gold medal for Russia at the 2016 Olympics.

WTA To Allow Coaching From The Box In 2020

WTA will allow coaching from the stands in 2020. The trial will start at the Dubai Duty Free Championships and continue throughout 2020 in Premier and International tournaments.

“The new trial will allow coaches to coach their player in the form they are currently coaching from the box without getting penalized,” the WTA said.

“Whether it’s verbal words of encouragement or a few words when their player is on the same side of the court to any hand signals, such coaching as it takes place now from the box will be allowed.

Basically, what the WTA is saying is that coaching takes place from stands anyway, so why not formalize it.  I am not sure this is good for women’s tennis.  First, on-court coaching, and now this.  Can the players not figure it themselves on the court?
