Greek Tennis star Maria Sakkari is featured on the February 2022 cover of Marie Claire magazine in Greece. Though Sakkari’s pictures in the magazine are okay, I feel the magazine could have done a better job in its photoshoot.

Maria Sakkari is the highest-ranked female Greek player in the Open era. She reached a peak ranking of world number 6 in 2021. That year, she reached the semifinals at the French Open and the US Open.

Sakkari plays an aggressive game backed by her powerful groundstrokes. She also has an incredible serve which gets her many cheap points in matches.

Sakkari’s mother Angelikí Kanellopoúlou is a former Top 50 player from Greece. She moved to Barcelona to train when she was 18. She currently resides in Monte Carlo like many top players to avoid taxes.

The WTA has its first title sponsor in more than a decade. WTA announced that it has entered into a multi-year sponsorship deal with medical technology company Hologic. 

The last title sponsor of the WTA tour was Sony Ericsson. That partnership ended in 2010. Hologic is a great fit for the WTA tour as the company focuses on women’s health and wellbeing. The company makes products for diagnostics, imaging, and surgery.

Hologic will be displaced at the net and in other signage at WTA tournaments. WTA and Hologic will announce joint activities focused on women’s health in the coming months.
