Novak Djokovic has split with his longtime sponsor Peugeot. The French car maker has been sponsoring Djokovic since 2014.
The company had said previously that it had no plans to drop Djokovic from its roster despite his objections to taking the COVID-19 vaccine. The company clarified that the decision to split with Djokovic was a commercial decision and not related to his vaccination status.
Carlos Tavares, CEO of Peugeot’s parent company Stellantis confirmed the news El Espanyol, saying
We will not continue with the sponsorship of Djokovic.
This has been a bad week for Novak Djokovic. He lost his world number 1 ranking to Daniil Medvedev and split with his longtime coach Marian Vajda. Vajda has worked with Djokovic for more than 15 years. Djokovic is unable to play the tournament at Indian Wells and Miami because US requires visitors to be vaccinated.
