Marin Cilic won the 2014 US Open title and reached the finals at two other grand slams – the 2017 Wimbledon and the 2018 Australian Open. Winning a grand slam title in an era dominated by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic is an accomplishment in itself. Though Cilic is well-liked on the tour, his career has not been without controversy. In 2013, he was suspended for 9 months for using the banned substance nikethamide.
His idols when growing up were Goran Ivanisevic and Ivan Ljubicic. Throughout his career, Cilic has been involved in charitable activities. He won the 2016 Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award for his work on Marin Cilic Foundation. His foundation provides better access to education for children.
