Holger Rune Reunites With Former Coach Lars Christensen

Holger Rune has split with Patrick Mouratoglou. The news was confirmed by his mom. It’s not surprising given the poor results Rune has had in recent months.

Patrick Mouratoglou helped Rune improve his serve tremendously when they worked together. But tennis is all about results and Rune simply didn’t get the results he was hoping for.

Holger Rune reached the quarterfinals at the French Open and at Wimbledon. H reached a career-high ranking of world number 4 in August 2023. In 2023, he reached two Masters finals – both on clay.

Prior to working with Mouratoglou, Holger Rune was working with  Lars Christensen. Christensen had been coaching Rune since he was six years old.

Mouratoglou and Christensen worked together for some time but had frequent ego clashes. Later, Mouratoglou took over as coach and Christensen was sidelined.

Rune’s mom, Aneke, expressed her unhappiness with the coaching situation, saying,

I don’t know what will happen with the coaching situation now. It’s a bit strange. The team that worked at the end of  2022 suddenly didn’t work in Australia. There were ego clashes between the coaches. The team that worked in the gravel season suddenly doesn’t work now. Ego clash again? The fact is that it is Holger who pays the price for it every time, and that cannot be right

It looks like Holger Rune may go back to working with his longtime coach Lars Christensen again. But the good news is that his game is in a good place, he just needs to make tactical adjustments to improve his results.
