Roger Federer announced on Twitter that he underwent a second procedure on his right knee.  Federer had arthroscopic knee surgery in February and has been recuperating. But his rehabilitation from the first surgery had been slow with setbacks.

Federer had surgery in 2016 and was out of action for the second half of the year. But came back strong in 2017 winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon. But he is much older now and the younger players are catching up to him.

Federer will be 39 when he returns in 2021.  Federer fans have to wonder how long Federer can play at the top level.  Repeated surgeries at his age are not welcome news to his fans.

The 2020 season is suspended at least until August.  There is an ongoing discussion about the US Open. Top players like Novak Djokovic have expressed reservations about playing at the US Open due to the restrictive measures announced by the USTA.

French Open has been rescheduled to be held in September this year. It’s unclear if the tournament will happen as scheduled given the uncertainties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
