Retired Tennis Star Li Na Donates 3 Million Yuan To Fight Coronavirus

Retired Chinese tennis player  Li Na has donated 3 million yuan ($430,000) to fight the coronavirus. Coronavirus has paralyzed the city of Wuhan, the hometown of Lina. 

Li Na, who won 2 grand slam titles – 2011 French Open and the 2014 Australian Open made the donation through a charity foundation. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2019. 

Other sports stars from Wuhan including soccer players Wang Shuang and Hao Junmin also made donations to help the city recover from the epidemic.

Bill Gates And Trevor Noah To Join Federer And Nadal In Match For Africa

Bill Gates will team up with Roger Federer in doubles to raise money for Federer’s charitable foundation.  “Team Gateserer” will play against Rafael Nadal and Trevor Noah, who is from South Africa.

The “Match for Africa” event, held in Cape Town, South Africa on February 7, 2020 will also feature the highly anticipated singles match between Federer and Nadal.

Match for Africa is the 6th edition of the event, and the first to be played on African soil.  Federer’s mother Lynette is from Kempton Park, Gauteng, in South Africa.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Federer’s charitable foundation.  The foundation has deployed $52 million to educate over 1.5 million children in six African countries and Switzerland.

The stadium will have a seating capacity of more than 50,000 people and is attempting to set a new world record for the most spectators to watch a tennis match.
