Denis Shapovalov Splits With Coach Mikhail Youzhny

Denis Shapovalov split with his coach Mikhail Youzhny at the end of 2021. Shapovalov didn’t get the result he expected from the partnership and the two mutually agreed to end the partnership.

Shapovalov said:

It was after the season, a couple weeks after Stockholm. I talked to him. It was very mutual. We still text and we continue to have a good relationship, but it just wasn’t working.

Unfortunately that’s the business of tennis sometimes. Just had to go a different direction. It’s super tough because I feel like anyone that I bring into my team, they’re like family to me.

It was super tough to come to the decision for both of us to split.

Jamie Delgado, who previously worked with Andy Murray, has reportedly joined the Denis Shapovalov coaching team. Delgado coached Andy Murray for the last five years.
