Tournaments are supposed to be neutral, at least on paper, especially in the finals. Take the Stuttgart Open as an example.
In a match between Matteo Berrettini and Jack Draper, the tournament appeared to anticipate a Berrettini victory. However, there was one issue: Jack Draper won.
The tournament was sponsored by Boss, which also sponsors the handsome Italian Berrettini. During the post-match presentation, Draper found himself awkwardly sitting on a bike that, according to the organizers, was meant for Berrettini.
But Jack Draper had some kind words for Matteo Berrettini, who has been struggling with injuries.
Firstly what an amazing final. Congrats on an amazing week. I was looking at your results before we played today on grass. Winning 2 at Queens. Final at Wimbledon. 2 titles here. It seemed like a really tough match. It just goes to show what an unbelievable player you are. I know youโve had your injuries like myself.. This sport is brutal. Itโs really tough when youโre on your own and youโve got to work things out and get back to your best form. Congratulations and I know youโre gonna have hopefully an amazing year.
-Jack Draper
Draper became the first British man to win a grass court title since Andy Murray and will soon be the highest-ranked Brit on the ATP tour, achieving a career-high ranking of world number 32. This was also Draper’s first career title
