Casper Ruud Wins Three Titles On Trot When No One Was Watching

While the tennis world was obsessed with the Olympics, Casper Ruud quietly won three tournaments in a row – at Bastad, Gstaad, and Kitzbuhel. Though Ruud didn’t beat any-big name opponents, he became the first player since Andy Murray in 2011 to win tournaments for three straight weeks.

Most top players were at the Olympics or were preparing for the hardcourt season. Ruud took this opportunity to win 3 tournaments – all on clay, long  after the claycourt season was over.

Not surprisingly, it was Nick Kyrgios who pointed out the absurdity of having so many clay court tournaments after Wimbledon.

Bro why is there still clay Face with tears of joy bringing in absolutely ZERO FANS, ZERO CROWDS. ZERO HYPE. It’s detrimental to the sport. My god. Excluding Gasquet, cuz he playing for just points this is just sad man. No wonder we are going backwards

-Nick Kyrgios

But even with a poor field, winning three titles on the ATP tour is not easy. Ruud will move to number 12 in the world with these wins.
