The Tallinn Open in Estonia got an all-Estonian semi-final featuring Kaia Kanepi and Anett Kontaveit. It was a great moment for a small country with just 1.3 million people. Even the Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas was there for the coin toss.
Kontaveit won the match in straight sets but the results didn’t matter as Kontaveit said after the match.
Anett Kontaveit is the highest-ranked Estonian player in history. She was ranked world number 2 earlier this year. Kaia Kanepi reached a peak ranking of world number 15 in 2012. She has reached the quarterfinals at all four grand slams.
