John McEnroe’s voice is one of the most recognizable voices in tennis. When he was a tennis player, he was arguing with umpires and driving them crazy with his on-court diatribe. After he retired, he became a staple in the commentary box providing his insights for the TV audience.
Recently, he has provided voice-over for Mindy Kaling’s Netflix show “Never Have I Ever”, a story of an Indian American high-school girl based on Kaling’s life. Kaling and McEnroe met at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in 2019 and Kaling offered the voice-over role to McEnroe.
McEnroe provides narration for Devi Vishwakumar, the show’s main character. The show has been extremely successful. Netflix just renewed the show for a third season. Of course, John McEnroe will return with his narration for the third season.
McEnroe won seven singles grand slam titles and nine doubles grand slam titles in his career. He helped the United States in five Davis Cup titles. He was also a Davis Cup captain for the US. McEnroe married to rock singer Patty Smyth in 1997 and lives in Manhattan.
