Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti was expelled from the Toronto Masters after leaving the COVID-19 bubble. Musetti, who is ranked 60th in the world, was scheduled to play in the qualifying draw. He will be replaced by Australia’s Max Purcell in the qualifying draw.
Tournament organizers said:
Any individual leaving the controlled environment is in breach of COVID-19 protocol and will be unable to re-enter to compete at the event.
Musetti had an excellent clay court season. He pushed Novak Djokovic to 5 sets in the fourth round at the French Open. He won the first two sets against Djokovic before retiring with cramps.
After the French Open, Lorenzo Musetti completed his high school at Istituto Parini, in Cecina. He lost in the first round at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
