Roger Federer received an honorary sports award in Zurich yesterday for his accomplishments. The event also honored the Swiss athletes of the year – Mujinga Kambundji and Marco Odermatt. Federer received a huge standing ovation at the event that was televised on the main Swiss TV channel SRF.
Federer received the award from Viola Amherd, Federal Councilor and Minister of Sport. He retired at the Laver Cup this year after an impressive career in which he won 20 grand slam titles and more than 100 titles overall. Speaking at the event,, Federer said:
I am happy to have managed to move on to my post-career. It was something that I dreaded. But it went better than I thought
Roger Federer thanked everyone for their support over the years. He said he plans to follow other sports more closely in his retirement, something he wasn’t able to do while he was playing tennis.
