The Swiss Indoors at Basel has canceled the 2020 edition of the tournament. It would have been the 50th anniversary of the event. The golden jubilee event will now be held in 2021.
Though the tournament has had big-name champions including Pete Sampras and Bjorn Borg, it is a tournament often associated with its home town hero Roger Federer.
Federer is a 10-time champion at Basel and holds a 24-match winning streak. He is currently recovering from surgery and is out for the rest of the year.
Unfortunately, coronavirus won’t spare any of us. And social distancing or matches played behind closed doors were out of the question for us from the start – Tournament president Roger Brennwald

Tennis friends,
As a result of the Corona pandemic, the world’s third-largest indoor tournament has been definitively canceled. The ATP has now formally approved the request to cancel the Swiss Indoors Basel, after the tournament management of the Swiss Indoors had already declared in mid-June that it would be irresponsible and unfeasible to hold the tournament in view of the medical, social and economic uncertainty.
