Sebastian Korda’s Season Cut Short by Elbow Surgery; Promising 2024 Campaign Ends Prematurely

Rising star Sebastian Korda‘s 2024 season has ended prematurely due to elbow surgery. Despite a promising start, injuries have plagued the young American throughout the year.

Korda’s most notable achievement of the season was reaching the semifinals of the Canadian Masters for the first time, propelling him to a career-high ranking of world number 15. However, these successes were overshadowed by persistent injury issues.

In a bright spot, Korda captured his second ATP singles title and first 500 title at the Washington Open, following in the footsteps of his father, who won the same tournament 32 years prior.

Elbow surgeries are notoriously demanding, and Korda’s recovery process is expected to take several weeks. With the remainder of the 2024 season behind him, the hope is that he can fully rest rehabilitate, and return to the court with renewed vigor in 2025.

It’s worth noting that Sebastian Korda comes from a sport-rich family. His sister, Nelly, is a world number 1 golfer, while his father, Petr, won the 1998 Australian Open.
