2021 boys’ Wimbledon champion Sameer Banerjee was a hitting partner to players participating in the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. Bring top juniors to the year-end championship is part of ATP’s Junior Hitting Partner Initiative launched in 2016.
Speaking of the experience, Banerjee said:
It’s been great. Just being able to hit with all these top guys, seeing how they conduct themselves, how they run their practices, how they prepare for matches, how they are in the locker rooms, it’s pretty cool. It’s something I didn’t think I’d be able to see.
Banerjee got to spend a lot of time with Daniil Medvedev, who reached the final where he lost to Alexander Zverev. Medvedev told Banerjee that the differences between players in the Top 200 are very small. Top players just do some small things better.
Banerjee will be attending Stanford University in the fall after initially committing to Columbia University and backing out. He reached a peak junior ranking of world number 2 in July 2021.
