The Japanese player beat the 38th-ranked Fucsovics 6-3, 6-2 to enter the semi final against Swiss Stan Wawrinka. Wawrinka defeated Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 7-6 in a match of one-handed backhands, a rare occurrence these days.
Daniil Medvedev, who won the title in Sofia last week, ended Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s seven-match win streak with a 6-4, 6-2 in the quarter-finals.
Medvedev will face Gael Monfils to advance to his second straight semi-final of the season with his 6-1, 6-2 win over Damir Dzumhur.
