Peyton Stearns played college tennis at the University of Texas at Austin. During her time there, she became the first Texas player to win the NCAA Division I women’s singles national championship. She was inspired by Danielle Collins to attend college before turning pro.

In 2023, she reached her first WTA singles final at the 2023 Copa Colsanitas. Though Stearns lost that match to Tatjana Maria in three sets, the impressive run helped her reach the top 100 in the WTA rankings for the first time.
