Lacoste Renews Contract With Daniil Medvedev Until 2026

Daniil Medvedev has signed a 5-year extension of his contract with Lacoste that runs until 2026. Medvedev also plays with Tecnifibre racquets and strings. Tecnifibre is owned by Lacoste as well.

Though a grand slam title has eluded Medvedev so far, he reached the US Open final in 2019 and has won three Masters titles.

Lacoste emphasizing his “elegance of play” didn’t go down well with fans on social media. But it is a good deal for Lacoste, signing up a potential grand slam champion for 5 years.

Lacoste is a French brand founded by tennis player René Lacoste and André Gillier. The company also sponsors top-ranked Novak Djokovic. Medvedev is represented by talent agency IMG.

Dominic Thiem Named Austrian Athlete Of The Year 2020

US Open champion Dominic Thiem was named the Austrian Athlete of the Year for 2020. Thiem beat out football player David Alaba and Ski Jumping World Cup champion Stefan Kraft.

In his previous attempts to win the award, Thiem had finished twice behind skier Marcel Hirscher.  Only two other tennis players have won this award, which is typically won by skiers. Thomas Muster won the award in 1990 and 1995, and Jürgen Melzer won the award in 2010.

Thiem will be playing at the Nitto ATP Finals in London next week. This is the fifth time he has qualified for the year-end tournament.
