Sofia Open Creates History With All Female Chair Umpire Team + Female Tournament Director, Referee, And Chief Of Umpires

The Sofia Open created history this week with an all-female chair umpire team for the event. The 250 series tournament has been on the ATP calendar since 2016 and takes place in Sofia, Bulgaria.

It was not just the umpires. The tournament director, referee, and chief of umpires were also female. It was not planned, it just happened that way.

Speaking of the all-female umpire team, TP Senior Director of Officiating Administration Ali Nili said

The ATP Officiating Department prioritizes high performance and a diverse officiating team. The tournament in Sofia is an example of our successful efforts in that direction. While the road to progress is long, we are proud of the direction we are heading and the future seems bright.

Swiss Marc-Andrea Hüsler won the 2022 event beating Holger Rune in straight sets. Previous winners of the tournament include Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev.
