Garbine Muguruza has split with longtime coach Conchita Martinez. Muguruza is taking a break from tennis right now.
Martinez worked with Muguruza during her 2017 Wimbledon triumph as her regular Sam Sumyk was unavailable. The pair had worked together since 2019.
Garbiñe and I have decided by mutual agreement to end our working relationship.
These have been fantastic years, full of great emotions and wonderful experiences, both on and off the court
It has been a real pleasure working with you, Garbiñe. With all my love, I wish you the best.
-Conchita Martinez
The split appears amicable as both Martinez and Muguruza shared their admiration for each other on social media while announcing the split.
Garbine Muguruza hasn’t played since the end of January when she was struggling with poor form. She is currently ranked outside the top 100. She recently announced that she will skip the claycourt and grasscourt seasons.
Mururuza is a former world number 1 who has won 10 titles in her career. She won the 2016 French Open title and the 2017 Wimbledon title. She reached two other grand slam finals – at the 2015 Wimbledon and 2020 Australian Open.
