Novak Djokovic is likely to skip Indian Wells and Miami tournaments because he can’t get a US visa. Djokovic has refused to get vaccinated and the strict US visa requirements will keep him out of two key ATP 1000 tournaments.
Djokovic also withdrew from the Australian Open after Australia revoked his visa due to his vaccination status. Bit Djokovic is hopeful that things may turn in his favor in a few weeks.
As of today, not. I can’t go, I can’t enter the United States As of today I’m not able to play. But let’s see what happens. I mean, maybe things change in the next few weeks.– Novak Djokovic
In an interview with the BBC, Djokovic defended his choice to remain unvaccinated. Djokovic said:
Everyone has the right to choose, to act, or say what ever they feel is appropriate for them. I believe in the freedom to choose what you put into your body. And, for me, that is essential.
I am trying to be in tune with my body as much as I possibly can. Based on all the information that I got, I decided not to take the vaccine, as of today.
Djokovic also said that he is willing to skip major tournaments to stay true to his beliefs. If he misses out on tournaments, he will lose ranking points and ultimately his world number 1 ranking.
