Mike Agassi, dad of legendary tennis player Andre Agassi has died at age 90. Born in Iran, Emmanuel “Mike” Agassi represented the country in boxing in the 1948 and 1952 Olympics.
In 1963, Mike Agassi moved to Las Vegas, where he lived for almost 60 years. He worked at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino, MGM Grand, and Landmark in Las Vegas. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth and his four children – Rita, Phillip, Tami, and Andre.
Mike Agassi was the driving force behind Andre Agassi. Though Mike Agassi has an up-and-down-relationship with Andre Agassi, Mike was very proud of his son’s accomplishments.
In his book, Open – An Autobiography, Andre Agassi writes about the thousands of balls his dad made him hit every day. Andre Agassi went on to win eight grand slam titles in his storied career and was ranked number one in the world. Agassi also won the gold in tennis at the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta.
