Zverev has been under scrutiny since November 2020 when his ex-girlfriend Olya Sharypova accused him of physical and emotional abuse. Zverev has denied the allegations but his public image has been tarnished by the allegations.

Since the scandal erupted, Zverev has split with his talent agency Team 8. His business affairs are now handled by his brother Mischa Zverev and Sergei Bubka.
