Fernando Vicente has been Andrey Rublev‘s coach since 2016. Vincente first met Rublev at the 4Slamtennis Academy in Barcelona, which Vincente runs with Galo Blanco and Jairo Velasco.

Fernando Vicente, who is from Spain, played on the ATP tour until 2011. He won three singles titles in his career and reached a peak singles ranking of world number 29. He coached Marcel Granollers and Marc López between 2010 and 2014.

It wasn’t always a smooth ride for Vincente and Rublev – there were many highs and lows. In 2018, Rublev had a spinal stress fracture that stalled his progress. But he was able to come back strong and reach the Top 10 in world rankings.

In 2020, Vicente was voted the ATP Coach of the Year. After winning the award, he said:

These awards, both mine and Andrey’s, are just a consequence of the years of hard work and countless hours dedicated to a sport that gives us so many emotions – for better or for worse. We’ve gone through some difficult times during these last almost five years together.

Andrey Rublev‘s mom Marina Marenko is a tennis coach and introduced him to the game. She had coached a many players  including Anna Kournikova. Starting in 2013, he was coached by Belarusian coach Sergey Tarasevich before Vincente took over.

Between 2019 and 2021, Rublev racked up big wins that helped him enter the Top 10 in world rankings. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games, he won the mixed doubles gold medal with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. It was the first time he had played mixed doubles in his career.

Gilles Cervara has been coaching Daniil Medvedev since 2017. Under Cervara’s guidance, Medvedev won a number of titles, including the 2021 US Open, where he beat Novak Djokovic.

Gilles Cervara, who is from France, briefly played on the ATP tour but didn’t find much success. But he has been a stellar coach for Medvedev. Cervara trained Medvedev to play an aggressive baseline game with very few mistakes, which frustrates opponents. Cervara also helped Medvedev become mentally strong and handle pressure situations well on the court.

In 2019, coaches on the ATP tour voted Gilles Cervara as the ATP Coach the Year. That’s not surprising if you consider the kind of season that Daniil Medvedev had in 2019. He won two Masters titles and reached the US Open final.

Medvedev started playing tennis at age 6 after his mother noticed an advertisement for tennis classes. Medvedev’s first tennis coach was Ekaterina Kryuchkova, who coached several players including Vera Zvonareva.

2021 was Medvedev’s best year on the tour. At the start of the year, he reached the finals at the Australian Open, reached the quarterfinals at the French Open (his least favorite surface is clay), and won the US Open.
