Thanasi Kokkinakis was born in Adelaide, Austalia. Both his parents are from Greece and Kokkinakis holds both Australian and Greek citizenship.
Kokkinakis had an excellent junior career in which his ranking peaked at world number 10. He reached two junior grand slam finals – at the Australian Open and the US Open.
Though he had some good wins on the ATP tour, his career has been interrupted by frequent injuries. When Kokkinakis is fit, he can go toe-to-toe with any top player.
