Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova and her husband Stepan Simek are getting divorced. The young couple got married two years ago raising eyebrows among tennis fans given how young they were. The couple has been together since their junior tennis days.
Vondrousova shared the news saying, “It just didn’t work out for us. We are formally resolving the divorce, but we have agreed on everything. She also revealed that Simek decided to keep the family cat.
At Wimbledon last year when Vondrousova won her first grand slam, Simek was seen providing support and got emotional when she won the title.
With the divorce, Vondrousova loses one of her biggest supporters and fans. It remains to be seen how she pulls it all together.
Vondrousova has had an up-and-down tennis career. She reached the finals at the 2019 French Open, struggle for a couple of years, and then won the 2023 Wimbledon in surprising fashion. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she won the silver medal in singles.
