Casper Ruud was born in Oslo, Norway on December 22, 1998. He is the son of former professional tennis players Christian Ruud and Lele Ruud.
He has two sisters – Caroline and Charlotte. Charlotte Ruud is a tennis player and she trains at the Rafa Nadal Academy. When he is not playing tennis, he loves to play golf, a passion he shares with his dad.
When growing up, his idol was Rafael Nadal.

In the juniors, Ruud found more success in doubles than in singles. he reached the third round at the French Open and US Open boys’ competitions in 2015. In doubles, he routinely played with Miomir Kecmanović, he reached two grand slam boys’ semifinals.
In 2016, he was ranked junior world number, becoming the first Norwegian to do so.
